Data Centre of the Future, now
Combining world class energy recovery facilities and sustainable construction practices, SilverFalcon and partners will become the backbone for sustainable technical infrastructure that will drive the future of Green Data Centers.
Amsterdam,Netherlands: CaransaGroup announced last week the sale of its data centre project in Westpoort, Amsterdam to GGID which will develop the most sustainable data centre in Europe. The acquisition was funded Brookfield, Tikehau Capital, and other investors. The investment comes on the tail winds of the Netherland's end to its moratorium on building data centers.
Over the next 2 years, GGID will develop the Westpoort location, a data centre development within an industrial area at the edge of the Port of Amsterdam, to house a 100-MVA data center. With the first tower being delivered in summer 2024.
SilverFalcon, the data center, will combine green energy sourcing and the use of an innovative cooling and energy recovery technology as a means to produce de-carbonized heat for over 100,000 homes within the city of Amsterdam.
By connecting to the Amsterdam district heat network., SilverFalcon will provide a sustainable infrastructure alternative for technology providers in Europe and globally thereby reducing the environmental impact of technology.
Tom de Raedt, CEO at GGID: “AI and HPC will exponentially expand over the next several years. The capacity on the market is limited and has high energy demands that are unsustainable and ecologically damaging. SilverFalcon’s cooling solutions will be able to provide the most environmentally friendly infrastructure for high-performance compute and other technologies in the market. We look forward to collaborating with our partners over the next years to continue to support the growth of these technologies”
Wouter Everaert, CEO at Great Grey Investments Datacenter(GGID): “As ambitious developer of sustainable data centers in Europe, we are proud to be able to develop our inaugural facility in Amsterdam, one of the core European connectivity markets. Together with our customers, shareholders, and private and public partners, we will develop thisfacility as a landmark in Amsterdam and an example for future sustainable datacentre developments.”
Maxime Laurent-Bellue, Head of Tactical Strategies at Tikehau, and Jean Odendall, Fund Manager of the Tikehau Special Opportunities funds, commented: “We are pleased to start this journey alongside SilverFalcon and continue building upon this long term partnership. This begins with an ambitious project which represents a major step in the evolution of data centers in being more environmentally and socially responsible. We believe this development reflects how our broad mandate and versatility enables us to produce solutions for unique and complex situations, and to therefore be a reliable and long term financial partner.”
With its focus on sustainability and reuse of energy, SilverFalcon will support the energy transition by transforming data centers from large energy consumers into large energy contributors whilst answering the need for more infrastructure on the growing technology demands in the ecosystem.
